East China's Wenzhou unveiled a list of the top 100 enterprises in terms of comprehensive strength on Dec 20, local media outlets reported.
The enterprises, with 55 involved in manufacturing, 28 in the service sector, and 17 in the construction sector, have a combined annual business revenue of 301.31 billion yuan ($47.31 billion), exceeding 300 billion yuan for the first time.
In the manufacturing sector, the five major industries of clothing, shoe leather, electrical appliances, auto parts, and chemical engineering have seen 32 enterprises make the list and realize 151.03 billion yuan in total annual sales revenue.
The private sector continued to play a stabilizing role in local economic development as 80 of the top 100 enterprises were privately-owned, contributing over 70 percent of total sales, profits and tax payments. They have also hired more than 290,000 employers, making them important local employers.
The top 100 enterprises have also placed emphasis on scientific research, as they have invested around 5.5 billion yuan in scientific research, a year-on-year increase of 16.6 percent. They have obtained a total of 12,751 patents, 12,313 were obtained by manufacturing enterprises.
The lists of the top 50 companies in the manufacturing industry, top 30 companies in the service industry, and outstanding entrepreneurs of 2021 were unveiled that same day.
