Wenzhou Medical University is one of the first higher learning institutions in Zhejiang that focus on the development of an open education and accept foreign students for medical studies.
The university has in recent years benefited from its frequent cultural and academic exchanges as well as the city's economic and medical resources, allowing it to become an international cultural exchange base that has life and health sciences studies as its core. The World Young Scientist Summit serves as its promotional platform.

The World Wenzhounese Center, a 50,000-square-meter establishment, was put into operation by the Wenzhou municipal government in 2018 as a new and integrated service platform for Wenzhou natives across the world. A total of 217 associations run by Wenzhou natives residing in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan have opened offices there. The center has an integrated international publicity network and more than 40 overseas Chinese media agencies, 104 overseas city promotional officers, and 16 overseas service stations playing supportive roles.
