The list of historical figures in Wenzhou who contributed to the city's cultural exchanges with East Asian countries was announced recently.
Twenty historical figures, including eminent monks, businesspeople, officials, overseas Chinese, ideologists, scientists, litterateurs, and educators, were awarded the honorary title.
The award, one of more than 100 international exchange activities to be held in Wenzhou after the city was recognized the 2022 Culture City of East Asia, aims to explore the history of cultural exchanges between Wenzhou, Japan and South Korea. The award is also aimed at inspiring the public's sense of pride and cultural identity and enhance the city's cultural influence and coverage.
Since its launch in March 2021, the activity has attracted wide attention and active participation from Wenzhou natives at home and abroad. The winners' list was determined after nominations from experts and recommendations from the public, several rounds of expert reviews, and online voting.
The activity was hosted by the Wenzhou culture, radio, TV, and tourism bureau and organized by the Wenzhou Overseas Media Center.
