Bonino Gabriella, an Italian sinologist who goes by the Chinese name Tang Yun, experienced some traditional Lunar New Year activities in a quadrangle courtyard in Rui'an, a county-level city in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on Jan 26.
Gabriella was accompanied by her husband Ben, a Canadian business executive in Rui'an, and their daughters.
The family was enthralled by traditional Chinese culture after experiencing such folk activities as making spring couplets, making paper-cut window decorations and tasting Spring Festival delicacies.
Their visit was filmed and will be uploaded online to offer audiences worldwide a glimpse into the small city in the coastal area of southern Zhejiang.
Bonino Gabriella has been working as a professor at the Wenzhou Business College in Wenzhou since 2017.
An author of several books about Chinese culture, Gabriella has been dubbed by locals as a "modern female Marco Polo" because of her extensive travels in China and Central and Western Asia.
