The second episode of the series features Akmal, a Tajikistani social media influencer who has been in China for seven years and is currently studying at Wenzhou Medical University.
In the video, Akmal learns about movable-type printing, an intangible cultural heritage that has been preserved by Rui'an residents for centuries, from Wang Chuanqiao. Akmal also tries crafting his own work of art.
Movable-type printing was one of the four great inventions in ancient China. The one passed down by Rui'an residents has a history of more than 800 years and is the only well-preserved ancient printing technique that is still in use in China today.
The technique, which was dubbed the "living fossil" of ancient printing, was inscribed on the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Need of Urgent Safeguarding on Nov 15, 2010.
