Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province recently released a 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) on the development of its digital economy, local media outlets reported.
According to the plan, the city is expected to see the added value of its digital economy reach 650 billion yuan ($102.83 billion) and account for 65 percent of its GDP in 2025. The added value of the digital economy's core industries will reach 100 billion yuan and account for 10 percent of its GDP by the same year.
To realize this goal, Wenzhou will play a leading role in the East Wenzhou Digital Economy Development corridor, establish two supportive industrial clusters in Yueqing city in the north and Rui'an city and Pingyang county in the south, cultivate three industrial chains for digital security, network communications, and intelligent computing, and set up various digital product and equipment bases.
In addition to seeking reform and upgrading in the traditional electronic information industry, Wenzhou will also focus on emerging segments such as internet of things, digital security, network communications, industrial Internet, and block chains. The city expects to attract 150 new digital economy projects each worth over 100 million yuan by 2025.
Wenzhou is also striving to digitalize social governance and enhance work efficiency. By enabling online management of various public affairs, the city aims to not only bring convenience to local residents but also build closer connections with people living in the Yangtze River Delta region.
