CPC Congress kicks off in Wenzhou

The 13th Congress of the Communist Party of China commenced in Wenzhou, a coastal city in East China's Zhejiang province, on Feb 24, local media outlets reported.

Liu Xiaotao, Party secretary of Wenzhou, presided over the congress.

The 13th CPC Congress was themed around the city's missions in the new era and the ultimate goal of realizing common prosperity in the long run.

Figures related to Wenzhou's economic and social development over the past year were published during the event.

According to official statistics, Wenzhou's GDP hit 758.5 billion yuan ($119.2 billion) in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 7.7 percent. Wenzhou was ranked among the country's top 30 cities in this regard.

The added value of the manufacturing industry accounted for 31.9 percent of the GDP, up 0.9 percentage points from the previous year. In particular, Wenzhou's fixed asset investment in 2021, which was primarily in the high-tech, environmental protection, and water conservancy sectors, increased 11.4 percent year-on-year.

The city's general financial revenue and general public budget revenue reached 108.15 and 65.76 billion yuan, up 12.4 percent and 9.2 percent respectively. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents was 69,678 yuan and 35,844 yuan, up 9.8 percent and 10.5 percent respectively.

The city's performance was hailed as an achievement in creating a prosperous society in a holistic manner.
