The lounge bridge, an intangible cultural heritage from Taishun county, Wenzhou, has once again played a role in fostering friendly exchanges across the Straits, China News reported.
Nearly 40 Taishun residents living in Taiwan recently paid a visit to 40 senior citizens who live alone in Jiji town in central Taiwan's Nantou county and led them on a tour of the Taishun-style lounge bridge donated by the Chinese mainland three years ago.
Representatives from Taishun and Jiji also made video calls to exchange and deepen mutual understanding.
"Whenever returnees see a lounge bridge, they will know that they are getting closer to home. I hope that with the lounge bridge and the spirit of mutual trust, Taishun and Nantou can enjoy a long-lasting friendship," said a second-generation Taiwan compatriot.
The activity was organized by the Taishun County Taiwan Compatriots and Relatives Association and the China Taiwan and Zhejiang Taishun Economic, trade and Culture Association.
