Wenzhou-Kean University recently organized a series of cultural exchange activities, inviting foreign teachers to experience the charm of the "Culture City of East Asia".
A glutinous rice sculpture activity organized on April 24 attracted the participation of 24 foreign teachers and Chinese staff. They were guided by professional sculptor Shao Zhen and tried their hands at making rice figurines of peony flowers and Bing Dwen Dwen, the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.
Professors Svetlana Vikhnevich, Kyra Whitehead, Hari Adhikari, and Baha Ihnain were also invited by WKU to experience China's hanfu (a type of traditional Chinese costume) culture on April 30.
With delicate clothing and make-up, the professors lighted incense, made jewelry in a new Chinese style, and learned about the history and culture behind conventional Chinese crafts.
"The activity helped me better understand Chinese culture," said professor Adhikari.
A number of professors, including Alfredo Oquendo from the United States and Wadia Rabhi from Canada, visited Nanxi River during the May Day holiday to explore the beautiful landscapes, rich cultural deposits, and authentic local flavors of Wenzhou.
