A group of 28 Hong Kong teenagers with Rui'an origins embarked on a journey to their ancestral home on July 4, exploring the rich cultural deposits there, local media outlets reported.

At the Rui'an movable type printing exhibition center, the teenagers were taught about the history of the national cultural heritage item and about a set of ancient tools for wood-based movable type printing.

They were also taught about indigo printing, or lanjiaxie in Chinese, a traditional cloth dyeing technique that originated in Wenzhou during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) before reaching its peak during the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

"I've heard that the technique represents the courage and efforts of Chinese people. It's really great," said one teenager.

The teenagers also experienced rural life by learning to make Nanshan noodles, bamboo-tube-cooked rice, and beggar's chicken.

"The summer camp was very interesting and gave me an opportunity to better understand the culture of my hometown Rui'an," said one teenager.
