Twenty-seven sci-tech achievements realized by research teams from Wenzhou won the 2021 Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Award on July 11, local media outlets reported.
Four were natural science awards, one was a technological invention award, and 22 were scientific and technological progress awards. Over half of the award-winning achievements were in the life sciences, intelligent equipment, and new materials industries.
Wenzhou Medical University and its affiliated hospitals continued to maintain strong scientific research capabilities in the life sciences field, with a total of seven achievements awarded.
For example, Professor Shen Xian and his team from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University won first place in the provincial science and technology progress awards for their research on the establishment and application of a precision treatment system for gastrointestinal tumors.
So far, the treatment system has been applied at 16 domestic grade A hospitals, benefiting more than 2,700 patients and reducing postoperative complications by 8.4 percent.
"We need to improve not only the survival rate of gastrointestinal cancer patients but also the quality of life after surgery," Professor Shen said.
Huafeng Group, Rui'an Auto Parts Co of Ruili Group, and Wuzhou Valve Co, which have won the provincial award many times, also saw their names appear on the list of award-winners this year.
"Winning the award three years in a row is a recognition of our continuous innovation abilities and encourages us to focus on key technologies," said Qiu Xiaolai, chief engineer of Chaoda Valve Group.
