Seals integrating the sporting elements of the 19th Asian Games and the craftsmanship of stone carving from Taishun county in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, were designated as licensed merchandise of the Games on July 20, local media outlets reported.
The first group of 510 seals have been put into production and will be sold on both online and offline platforms by the end of this month at a price of 580 yuan ($85.72) each.
The seal was inspired by the main venue of the Games – the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, nicknamed the Big Lotus, appearing as a beautiful lotus flower in full bloom. At the bottom of the seal is the emblem of the Games.
Lin Wa, chief designer of the seal and a teacher at the School of Media and Art Design of Wenzhou Business College, said he has collected a wide range of information about the Games and tried to combine Taishun stone with other wooden and metal materials for pendants and ornaments before deciding to create a seal.
"The stone seal represents Chinese cultural elements, symbolizing the 5,000-year civilization of China," Lin said.
