Two lush parks in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, were recently recognized as carbon neutralization forests for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022, local media outlets reported.

The Longwan Asian Games Park, involving an area of over 70,000 square meters and over 40,000-sq-m of greening, consists of basketball courts, five-a-side football fields, baseball fields, multipurpose courts, and skateboarding and rock climbing fields.

The Ouhai Asian Games Dragon Boat Park, which covers an area of 28,680 sq m and has 14,881 sq m of green area, features a sunken plaza for business and recreational needs and multiple layers of green space.

Afforestation, which absorbs large amounts of carbon dioxide, is considered the most economical way to be "carbon neutral". Trees use photosynthesis to take carbon out of the air, form solid carbohydrates, and store it in their bodies in a process known as carbon sequestration. Things with the ability to absorb and store carbon dioxide are known as "carbon sinks."

A carbon neutralization forest is an ecosystem that adsorbs pollutants, conserves soil and water, and greens landscapes. Through the optimization of site selection, careful design, overall planning and coordination, a forest can help enlarge the amount of urban greening to realize carbon sequestration, effectively carbon dioxide emissions, and contribute to carbon neutrality for the Asian Games.

The goal of a carbon neutralization forest is to absorb carbon, as it needs to calculate the amount of carbon the forest absorbed and use it in carbon trade for real benefits.
