Dream of Spring Breeze, a movie about the development of private businesses against the backdrop of reform and opening-up in the 1980s, started shooting in Yueqing, a county-level city of Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, on Aug 23.
The movie, adapted from the novel of the same name written by entrepreneur Zhang Chengxin, tells the story of Zhou Zhilong, an apprentice carpenter who, to pursue a better life, gave up his stable woodworking job and started from scratch in the 1980s. Zhou overcame all kinds of difficulties and developed his factory into a well-known home appliances brand in China.
Zhang Chengxin, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie, is a native of Liushi town, Yueqing. He has also set up an electric appliance factory in his hometown during the early stages of China's reform and opening-up in the 1980s.
Zhang is a go-getter and witness to the creation and development of the Wenzhou Model, which refers to Wenzhou locals developing non-agricultural industries through household industry and specialized markets, resulting in a new development pattern of small commodities with a large market.
Xu Feng, a director from the Central Newsreel and Documentary Film Studio, will serve as the chief director of the movie.
"This is my first time directing a story about Wenzhou. The Wenzhou Model is well-known throughout the country and has aroused widespread public interest. It's not easy to adapt the script. I'm looking forward to making the best film we can," Xu said.
The movie is scheduled to wrap in mid-September and be released next year.
