The GDP of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province in the first half of this year ranked 10th among 41 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region, according to a recently released report.

Wenzhou, registered a year-on-year increase in GDP of 3.3 percent, with its half-year GDP reaching 374.5 billion yuan ($54.56 billion), surpassing that of Xuzhou in neighboring Jiangsu province and rising to 10th place.

The top 10 cities with the highest half-year GDP were Shanghai, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, Ningbo, Wuxi, Nantong, Hefei, Changzhou, and Wenzhou.

As the overall strength of a city is mainly measured by its real economy, Wenzhou has in recent years attached importance to the development of its industrial and supply chains, making efforts to attract competent solution providers from home and abroad to strengthen the holistic capabilities of its manufacturing industry.

Wenzhou has also given priority to the innovative development of rising industries, such as promoting the establishment of the World Young Scientist Summit, rolling out the national three-year plan to develop into an innovative city, attracting 54 projects with investment of at least 100 million yuan each, and seeking more progress in key sci-tech innovation projects such as the Oujiang Laboratory, China Eye Valley, and China Gene Medicine Valley.
