Wenzhou University in East China's Zhejiang province welcomed its first batch of seven doctoral students on Sept 6, local media outlets reported.
They will study at the university's School of Chemistry and Materials Engineering and major in energy chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, analytical chemistry, material chemistry, and environmental chemistry.
The School of Chemistry and Materials Engineering was approved by the Ministry of Education to cultivate doctoral students in 2021, an effort by the school since it was listed by the provincial government as a key university in 2019.
Chemistry is a top discipline at Wenzhou University and ranks relatively high among the nation's chemistry departments.
Hu Haiyan, a newbie who studies transition metal oxide cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, said she felt honored to be one of the first doctoral students admitted by Wenzhou University.
"I'm looking forward to working out sodium-ion batteries that are of high quality, reasonably priced, and of practical value during my doctoral studies, playing my part to help achieve peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality as soon as possible," Hu said.
