Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province saw a consumption peak during the seven-day National Day holiday from Oct 1 to 7 as the city's 37 key commercial complexes generated total sales revenue of 604 million yuan ($84.86 million), a year-on-year growth of 0.9 percent.
A variety of indoor and outdoor fairs organized by both shopping malls and individuals gave local residents access to delicious food, intangible cultural heritage items, creative cultural products, and fashionable gadgets.
Statistics show that, supported by various marketing campaigns, the sales revenue of supermarkets, shopping malls and specialty stores during the National Day holiday saw year-on-year increases of 12.5 percent, 9.1 percent and 1.6 percent, respectively.
As people were encouraged to stay put during the holiday, mini-vacations have gone viral among young people as they preferred to take part in talk shows, art exhibitions and music parties.
"Attending exhibitions has become an important part of my holiday life. They provide a visual feast and nourish my soul," said a woman surnamed Luo.
Box office revenues surged over the National Day holiday, with the city's total box office reaching 12.81 million yuan from Sept 30 to Oct 6. Compared with the previous week, the average daily turnover of cinemas in Wenzhou increased 940 percent and the average daily passenger flow increased by 263 percent.
