Wencheng has realized historical breakthroughs over the past decade, going from an underdeveloped area to achieving high-quality development, said Liu Zhonghua, Party secretary of the county, at a press conference on Sept 19.

In addition to helping some households raise thier annual income to surpass the absolute poverty line of 4,600 yuan ($642.16), Wencheng has maintained pace with other regions in Zhejiang province in building a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

Statistics show that in 2021, the regional GDP of Wencheng was 11.65 billion yuan, with an average annual growth rate of 7.6 percent, higher than the province's and city’s averages. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents in the county grew from 22,700 yuan and 8,400 yuan in 2012 to 47,500 yuan and 22,600 yuan in 2021, respectively.

After constructing over 112 kilometers of expressways, all of Wencheng county can now be accessed within a half-hour drive. It is also within a one-hour drive of the main urban area of Wenzhou.

The county is also accelerating the transformation of its agricultural sector by setting up Wenzhou's first agricultural economic development zone and attracting 77 projects with investment totaling 3.62 billion yuan via its three agricultural economy investment fairs.

By putting more emphasis on the headquarters economy, Wenzhou has in the past three years become home to 226 new headquarters enterprises, earning a total of 1.63 billion yuan in tax revenue, an average annual increase of 121 percent.
