Opening its mind and pursuing innovation are the two main goals of Taishun, a mountainous county of Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, summarizing its progress over the past decade, according to Ding Yifeng, the county's Party secretary, at a press conference on Sept 28.
Though the county's development was once encumbered by natural obstacles, it has managed to help its rural population acquire wealth over the past 10 years. Its regional GDP multiplied by a factor of 2.4 from 2012 to 13.24 billion yuan ($1.85 billion) in 2021, an average annual growth rate of 7.6 percent, total government fiscal and public budget revenue increased by an average of 17.74 percent and 13.9 percent, respectively, and the per capita disposable income of urban and rural permanent residents grew by factors of 2.16 and 2.79 since 2012, respectively.
Taishun has also transformed its natural obstacles into resources, through which it has been striving to develop ecology and new energy industries, as well as aquaculture, the wine industry, and auto part manufacturing for new energy vehicles.
The county is also building transportation channels to the main urban area of Wenzhou and has established a one-hour commuting circle with other regions of the city.
Moreover, taking advantage of the 140,000 native Taishun merchants, the county has brought in a total of 210 projects and reached agreements on 93 projects in the past 10 years, with investment totaling 76.18 billion yuan ($10.63 billion). The total talent pool in Taishun has increased from 33,500 in 2012 to 53,900 in 2021.
Taishun has also prioritized people's well-being by improving local living standards and enriching the spiritual lives of local residents.
