East China's electric giant Delixi Group signed a cooperative deal with Altay on Oct 25 to help the northwestern Chinese prefecture in the protection of biodiversity, local media outlets reported.

Delixi, based in Yueqing, Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has invested 300,000 yuan ($41,520) for a 5,000-square-meter barn for wild animals living in the Altai Mountains in Altay, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.

The barn will be mainly used for the planting and storage of fodders such as shrub willows, poplars, carrots, corns and clovers. Injured wild animals that are recovering, such as Eurasian beavers, goitered or black-tailed gazelles, and red deer, will be fed by the fodders.

Eurasian beavers, also known as castor fibers, are under first-class protection in China with only about 1,000 left in the world – even scarcer than giant pandas.

"Nature is the foundation of human survival and development. Respecting and protecting nature and its biodiversity is both a national strategy and the responsibility of mankind," said Hu Yuhuang, chairman of Delixi.

In addition to focusing on the electric industry, Delixi has been giving back to society and is devoted to programs for the public good. Over almost four decades since its foundation, the group has donated more than 200 million yuan toward education, poverty eradication, and disaster relief.
