Wenzhou Jan-Sept foreign trade approaches $30b

Statistics from Wenzhou Customs show that in the first three quarters of this year, the total value of Wenzhou's imports and exports reached 218.73 billion yuan ($29.92 billion), a year-on-year increase of 28.1 percent.

The total value of the city's imports and exports in the first nine months surpassed 90 percent of that of last year and accounted for 0.7 percent of the country's total.

Exports, mainly made up of mechanical and electrical, labor-intensive, and high-tech projects, were valued at 188.56 billion yuan, growing 32.5 percent year on year. Mechanical and electrical products alone accounted for 50.9 percent of the city's total exports.

Imports registered a year-on-year increase of 6 percent to 30.17 billion yuan during the period, with bulk commodities such as ferroalloy, liquefied petroleum gas, and logs continuing to be the main imports.

The city also consumed 5.35 billion yuan in consumer goods, up 19.3 percent year on year and accounting for 17.7 percent of the city's total, up by 2 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

The city saw a surge in imports from the African and EU markets in the first three quarters, reaching 5.54 billion yuan and 2.37 billion yuan, up by 45.3 percent and 14.4 percent, respectively.
