A boy once obsessed with football has become a successful businessman creating and manufacturing original football jerseys, Wenzhou Daily reported.
Engaged in the football uniform business for 15 years, Zhou Congjian, a native of Wenzhou who currently runs a foreign trade company in Yiwu, China's small commodities hub located next to Wenzhou, managed to sell over 2 million original jerseys to his customers across the globe for the Qatar World Cup.
"I've been working on original jerseys for 32 teams participating in the World Cup since March. The jerseys were warmly received, and one customer ever ordered 40,000 sets after seeing the samples via video call," Zhou said.
"Our designs were based on but different from the original jerseys. For example, we changed the color and layout of the jerseys and added some unique elements," Zhou introduced.
The big orders have motivated Zhou to continue with his original designs.
"I want to see more fans wearing our jerseys and cheering for their beloved teams in more league cups in the future," Zhou said.
Zhou has benefited from the sports enthusiasm sparked by the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008, and has since witnessed increasing confidence in made-in-China products, causing his sale to increase year-by-year. The his orders peaked in 2018, when the Russia World Cup opened, when he bagged deals exceeding 50 million yuan ($6.98 million) for over 1 million jerseys.
