The delegation from Wenzhou bagged a record 147.25 gold medals, 110 silver medals, and 131.5 bronze medals at the 17th Games of Zhejiang Province that came to a close in neighboring city Jinhua on Nov 28.
The Wenzhou swimming team scored the highest number of gold metals at 42.875 (the part after the decimal is a result of the Games' rule to identify athletes under joint cultivation), surpassing the previous record of 36 gold medals in 2002. Ten-year-old Liu Yanxi and 11-year-old Li Bolin claimed six gold medals in their respective groups.
The Wenzhou track and field team earned 24 gold medals, more than any other provincial team, as athletes have shown their talent and strength in jumping, throwing and running events.
The delegation also claimed six gold medals in rowing, five in canoeing, six in men's and women's volleyball, and one each in equestrian events and archery.
The first competition of the 17th Games of Zhejiang Province was held at the Jinhua Sports Center Gymnasium on July 25. The first stage of the Games was completed on Oct 3, during which 680 gold medal winners stood out in a total of 51 sports.
The second stage of the Games started on Nov 19, one day after the grand opening ceremony held at the Jinhua Sports Center.
The Games of Zhejiang Province is the largest comprehensive sports meet in the province and are held every four years.
