The Nigerian FOA Public School was recently reopened to local students after its renovation was complete.
Undertaken by the Consulate-general of China in Lagos and the Huaxing Art Troupe Nigeria Ltd, the renovation, which cost over 400,000 yuan ($57,400), was funded by Ni Mengxiao, head of the Huaxing troupe, and his fellow citizens from Yueqing, a county-level city administered by East China's Wenzhou.
Thirteen classrooms were renovated, three classrooms were newly built, and a water tank was added to provide fresh water to local students and teachers.
More than 1,800 officials, overseas Chinese representatives, Chinese enterprise leaders, and students and teachers attended the ceremony.
Every student was awarded a pack of school supplies and those with excellent academic results also received subsidies from native Yueqing businesspeople living in Nigeria.
"Children are the future of a country. We hope that these youngsters can study in a healthy and friendly environment," Ni said.
"We've been offering support to local students, nurseries and vulnerable groups. We hope to contribute more to non-governmental exchanges between China and Nigeria," Ni added.
