Wenzhou businesspeople embarked on a trip to Thailand on Jan 2 to deepen their exchanges with the Southeast Asian country, local media outlets reported.
As the second largest economy of ASEAN, Thailand is the fifth largest exporter to Wenzhou and the city's fourth largest import destination.
During the first 11 months of 2022, Wenzhou's total imports from and exports to Thailand reached 11.46 billion yuan ($1.67 billion), with a year-on-year growth of 9.73 percent. Products mainly exported from Wenzhou to Thailand included electrical equipment, auto parts, printing and packaging materials, plastic products, and steel products.
During the five-day business trip, the delegation will hold economic and trade exchange sessions, and visit local industrial parks, key enterprises, and major associations so as to win more orders from the Southeast Asian market.
The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP agreement, which took effect in Thailand on Jan 1, 2022, has further deepened regional cooperation between China and ASEAN countries.
Over the past year, the RCEP has helped lower tariffs, facilitated the integration of industrial chains and benefited consumers in the 14 markets, which include 10 member states of ASEAN plus China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand.
