Quality black tea planted and processed in Pingyang county, Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, was shipped to Chili on Jan 4. It is the first time Wenzhou has explored the overseas tea market.

Pingyang is home to many acres of black tea that have been well-known since the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

The tea was purchased by a Wenzhou businessperson who currently lives and works in Chili. It will mainly be sold to Chinese people living there.

The smooth clearance and shipping of the tea was made possible with the steady support of Wenzhou customs as the bureau has dispatched groups of officers and experts to help the tea plantation with its export policies, clearance processes, and inspection and quarantine requirements.

The export of Pingyang tea overseas is also expected to promote Wenzhou's agricultural exports. According to statistics released by Wenzhou customs, the city exported around 10,657.7 metric tons of food valued at 357 million yuan ($52.01 million) overseas in 2022.
