Wenzhou, an economic powerhouse renowned for its private sector, announced on Jan 10 that it will carry out more business promotions overseas in 2023, local media outlets reported.

The city will focus on strengthening or extending business ties with Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, and member states of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement.

By hosting customized investment activities, Wenzhou aims to incentivize more overseas Chinese, especially Wenzhou natives living overseas, to return to their homeland and start businesses.

Wenzhou said that it will roll out a series of preferential policies on medical care, education and housing for foreign enterprises and their employees so as to create a friendly living environment.

An official from Wenzhou New District said that the district will focus on emerging industries such as new energy, new materials, digital economy, intelligent manufacturing, and health in 2023. It will target high-end foreign enterprises and major projects and strive to attract more than 30 industrial projects worth over 100 million yuan ($14.77 million) each.
