Wenzhou, a coastal city in East China's Zhejiang province, registered a GDP of 802.98 billion yuan ($118.36 billion) in 2022, a year-on-year increase of 3.7 percent, 0.7 percentage points higher than the national average and 0.6 percentage points higher than the province average.

The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 73,326 yuan and 38,482 yuan, respectively, up 5.2 percent and 7.4 percent, further narrowing the urban-rural income ratio.

Over the past year, Wenzhou has strengthened coordination to win both the battle against the epidemic and achieve economic stability.

Its total imports and exports increased by 22.4 percent, with the share of exports in the country rising to 1.04 percent, while total retail sales of consumer goods increased by 3.6 percent and the added value of the service sector increased by 3.8 percent, the second fastest growth rate in the province.

Four batches of 218 major industrial projects were signed into effect in Wenzhou in 2022, with a total investment of 411.9 billion yuan, while the added value of strategic emerging industries and the five traditional pillar industries increased by 7.7 percent and 5.1 percent, respectively.

Wenzhou has developed 13 high-level innovation platforms, accredited three provincial-level new R&D institutions, and become home to 765 new high-tech companies and 2,159 technology-based small and medium-sized companies.

The city has also brought in seven full-time academicians and experts and cultivated 237,000 college students and skilled personnel.

A total of 16 towns in Wenzhou were named provincial-level beautiful rural demonstration towns in 2022, while 38 villages were recognized as future villages and six were recognized as historical and cultural villages, more than anywhere else in Zhejiang province.

Wenzhou has won the honorary title as one of the happiest cities in China for four consecutive years. It also witnessed the production of this year's Spring Festival Opera Gala, the first time the 33-year-old cultural show was shot outdoors.
