The breathtaking rapeseed flowers in spring is expected to attract many visitors to Yueqing, a county-level city in Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, as the city's first urban tourism festival began on March 24.

There are more than 2,300 mu (153 hectares) of rapeseed fields in downtown Yueqing. The 7.9-kilometer flower belt, which was once uncultivated land, is located between the city's sixth-ring road and the Shenyang-Haikou expressway.

The local government encouraged the transfer of land to skillful farmers or investors, who grow sunflowers, rapeseed, and rice in different seasons, improving the land use efficiency and bringing about economic benefits.

According to a visitor surnamed Zhao, people used to visit the suburbs of Yueqing to appreciate the giant rapeseed flower field.

The festival, the first tourism festival of its kind in Yueqing, will run until April 5. Tourists can enjoy tasty snacks, traditional costume shows, learning camps, and various cultural and art experiences during the 13-day event at a local urban pastoral complex.
