Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province retained the honorary title of "China Shoe Capital - Wenzhou" as according to an announcement by the China Light Industry Federation.
The honorary title will be valid for four years.
In early January of this year, the expert evaluation team of the China Light Industry Federation visited Wenzhou for an on-site re-evaluation.
The federation emphasized in the notice that it hopes Wenzhou will further increase support for the footwear and leather industry, formulate and implement targeted plans for the shoe-making industry, and further optimize the industrial layout and product structure.
Wenzhou has been striving to go from being a "China Shoe Capital" to a "World Shoe Capital" and accelerate its progress towards creating a world-class shoe-making industry cluster.
The shoe industry is growing steadily, achieving a total industrial output value of 42.24 billion yuan ($6.13 billion) last year, a year-on-year increase of 7 percent. Ninety-four footwear projects were expanded with a planned total investment of 15.07 billion yuan, and 12 projects with a total investment of 2.517 billion yuan were introduced.
