It's that time of year again, when book lovers come together to celebrate their shared passion.

The "Reading Wenzhou, Building a Literary Society" National Reading Festival opened at the Yueqing City Grand Theatre on April 22, a day before the annual World Book and Copyright Day.

Last year, the Wenzhou government implemented the Regulations on the Promotion of Public Reading, and a survey report updating Wenzhou's public reading conditions is released every year.

This year's report shows that in 2022, the comprehensive reading rate of Wenzhou residents was 92.6 percent, ranking among the highest in the province. Reading has become an indispensable part of the lives of many Wenzhou residents.

Digital reading, including e-books and audiobooks, is developing rapidly as well and now accounts for 63.78 percent of all reading among adults. Digital reading on mobile phones, including reading news, books, and audiobooks, has also made reading more accessible.

The event also presented the awards for the "Top 10 City Libraries in Wenzhou in 2022", with the Nantang Street City Library in Lucheng district and the Beibaixiang City Library in Yueqing City receiving awards. The Wenzhou City 2022 Book Borrowing List, Sales List, and the 2023 Children's Literature New Book List were also announced at the event.

In addition, there was an awards ceremony to honor "reading models" in Wenzhou in 2022.
