Zheng Mingwei, hailing from Tangxia town in Rui'an, Wenzhou, is a dedicated member of the competition technical operations team for the breaking event at the Hangzhou Asian Games.

His primary responsibilities include the procurement, installation, and safe use of equipment and devices for breaking competitions.

At 32 years old, Zheng is a national-level street dance judge and a senior amateur coach for street dance in Zhejiang province. He has 10 years of experience in teaching breakdance and has organized more than 10 provincial and municipal street dance events.

Prior to his coaching role, Zheng participated in over 60 street dance competitions, both large and small, in China and abroad. He has also been invited to appear on variety shows such as Happy Heroes and China's Got Talent.

It was confirmed in 2020 that breaking would be added as a new event in the Hangzhou Asian Games, and Zheng will also work on the competition technical operations team for the breaking competitions.

"Since breaking is making its debut in the Asian Games, there are no established standards yet for venue construction or equipment selection. Our preparations are still in the exploratory phase," Zheng said.

He and his team members are working hard every day, meticulously refining every detail. They analyze parameters such as flooring and adhesive used in the competition venue, the DJ system, and stage lighting layout, and discuss and formulate international standards for constructing and equipping breaking competition venues.

During the Games, breaking and table tennis events will share the same venue – the main stadium in the Gongshu Canal Sports Park. Therefore, preparations for the breaking event also involve transitioning between the two sports, including rooms, competition signage, seating, and lighting.

"During the two-day transition period, every detail needs to be thoroughly considered," Zheng emphasized.

Although the work is challenging, the entire competition technical operations team is full of confidence. "We hope that the team's work will be praised by participating athletes and technical officials, and that the audience can truly immerse themselves in the charm of street dance. Of course, our biggest wish is to see the Chinese flag rise on the breaking competition stage," Zheng said.
