Four metric tons of waxberry wine made in Wencheng county, Wenzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, were delivered to Italy on June 4, according to Wenzhou Customs.

It is the first time that Wenzhou-made waxberry wine has been exported to another country.

The 2,000 boxes of waxberry wine were produced by Zhejiang Bowen Wine Brewing Co Ltd in Wencheng.

Wencheng county is one of the major producing areas of waxberries in Wenzhou. With sweet taste and juicy and rich pulp, Wencheng-grown waxberries are popular among local residents and have also been exported to Italy and other countries.

Difficult to keep fresh, waxberries have been made into wine by Wencheng growers, which has not only expanded sales channels but also increased the income of local farmers.

In recent years, local authorities have promoted the construction of standardized waxberry production bases and brought in companies to process waxberry wine and juice.

In 2022, Wencheng county was home to 3,690 mu (246 hectares) of waxberry orchards and its waxberries were sold to 20 cities in China with a total sales revenue of 268 million yuan ($37.64 million).
