From New Delhi in 1982 to Jakarta in 2018, Wenzhou athletes have earned a total of 33 gold medals for the Chinese delegation in 10 Asian Games, an average of three per session, reflecting the strong sports industry in Wenzhou.
Dai Lili, a table tennis player, launched Wenzhou's winning streak when she was 18 years old.
She won two gold medals in the women's table tennis doubles and team competitions in New Delhi in 1982 and in the Seoul Asian Games four years later.
Over the course of 10 years as a table tennis player, Dai has won four World Table Tennis Championships and is considered a world-class star.
Wenzhou's first male champion was Zhu Ledan at the Seoul Asian Games in 1986, who switched from basketball to rowing and won gold in the men's eight coxswain rowing competition with his teammates.
