The Yueqing government invited a group of foreigners to explore the local Longxi township on June 18, inviting them to immerse themselves in the charm of traditional folk culture and experience the joyous atmosphere of the ongoing Dendrobium Flowers Festival.
The day's itinerary included a chance to experience the processing techniques of dendrobium flowers, a visit to the Tiefengtang Museum, a dendrobium flower banquet, a visit to a stunning waterfall, and Yueju opera performances.
Gerrick, an American who has been married a Yueqing woman for eight years, came with his family to Longxi township for the first time.
"The ecological environment here is excellent, with clear blue skies and fresh air, giving people a taste of a leisurely and slow-paced lifestyle," Gerrick said.
Daniel, a Cameroonian who currently teaches at Yueqing Foreign Language School, said he "didn't know that dendrobium flowers carry so much cultural and industrial significance that they have driven the development in mountainous areas of northern Yueqing." Daniel not only speaks fluent Mandarin but also has a good command of the local Wenzhou dialect.
"The experience in Longxi township allowed the foreigners to understand the diverse aspects of Yueqing and promoted friendship through cultural exchanges," said an official from the Yueqing municipal foreign affairs office.
