The rosters for swimming, shooting, and badminton at the Hangzhou Asian Games have been announced, and five athletes from Wenzhou have made the cut.
Xu Jiayu, Pan Zhanle, and Liu Yaxin have been selected for the Chinese swimming team, while Wang Zhilin has been chosen for the Chinese shooting team and Zheng Siwei for the Chinese badminton team.
This year, Xu Jiayu, the "king of gold medals" at the Jakarta Asian Games, has returned to form, and his performance in the upcoming Asian Games is highly anticipated. Young talent Pan Zhanle has been shining on the domestic stage following his victory in the men's 100m freestyle and breaking of the Asian record. He also claimed gold in the men's 200m freestyle, sweeping all gold medals in the men's 100m and 400m freestyle events. Liu Yaxin has been performing strongly and in both the 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle events.
The Chinese shooting team's roster for the pistol event of the Games has been finalized, and young athlete Wang Zhilin from Wenzhou has been selected. She will compete in the women's 10m air pistol event. The Chinese shooting team has traditionally performed well in women's air pistol.
Zheng Siwei will partner with Huang Yaqiong in the mixed doubles badminton event at the Games and will participate in the men's team event. At the Sudirman Cup World Mixed Team Championships in May, Zheng helped the Chinese team win the championship, earning Wenzhou its second world title of the year.
Previously, Lin Heng from Cangnan county, Wenzhou, made the Chinese esports roster for the Arena of Valor event at the Games. Three Wenzhou girls, Li Shuqi, Xue Lina, and Zhu Xiaoli, have secured spots on the women's dragon boat team.
