Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province ranked first on the provincial intangible cultural heritage protection and development list issued on July 13 for the sixth time since 2017.

The index takes into consideration heritage protection, inheritance, and innovation. It is the most authoritative and comprehensive evaluation index for intangible cultural heritage protection in the province. Shaoxing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, and Jinhua followed Wenzhou on the list.

Wenzhou is a nationally-acknowledged historical and cultural city. The preservation of its culture and the survival of its craftsmanship have created a deep-seated cultural heritage and rich cultural resources.

Wenzhou ranks among the top cities in the country in terms of the total number of intangible cultural heritage projects and total number of inheritors. It has four items that have been selected as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage projects, 35 national-level intangible cultural heritage projects, 159 provincial-level projects, and 779 municipal-level projects. It currently has 37 national-level inheritors, 230 provincial-level inheritors, 933 municipal-level inheritors, 14 inheritor groups, and 20 inheritor communities.

With its rich intangible cultural heritage and comprehensive protection measures, Wenzhou hopes to continue being a shining example of intangible cultural heritage protection and development in China.
