As the Asian Games approach, ensuring the water environment at the Dragon Boat Sports Center in Ouhai district, Wenzhou has become paramount.
Situated in Louqiao sub-district, the Dragon Boat Lake was excavated as an artificial reservoir to host the dragon boat races of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, integrating flood control, drainage, and urban landscape planning. The lake is 1,200 meters long, 130 meters wide, and 3.5 meters deep. Its water quality is classified as Grade III.
The lake is a relatively closed body of water, with a fragile capacity for self-recovery within its ecosystem. To enhance water circulation, Ouhai has established five simple control gates on the four surrounding river systems, facilitating water exchange between Dragon Boat Lake and the surrounding water network, thereby increasing the flow rate.
Additionally, a supplementary pipeline connected to the original water supply of Ouhai Water Plant was established to provide the lake with eco-friendly Grade I to II water from Zeya Reservoir on a regular basis.
The Dragon Boat Sports Center has also set up a micro water quality automatic monitoring station, enabling real-time tracking of river water quality.
Ouhai has also adopted ultrasonic algae removal, a technique that utilizes ultrasonic waves to disrupt the gas vesicles within algae cells. In comparison to chemical agents, the physical method of algae removal is safer, particularly in its efficacy against harmful blue-green algae.
