The 2023 National Youth Sailing Championship concluded on Aug 2 after a four-day event held in Cangnan county of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province, local media reported.

The tournament served as the preliminary round for ILCA6&7, a youth sailing category in the Open Group. Nearly 100 athletes from 11 regions across the country participated in the competition.

Despite the occurrence of a typhoon, excitement for the competition remained unabated. Young sailors maneuvered their sailboats through the waves, creating a vibrant spectacle along the azure coastline. The event enthralled both residents and tourists, showcasing a thrilling and fiercely competitive sailing extravaganza.

Following five rounds of 470-class races and four rounds of ILCA matches, six national champions in youth sailing were crowned, and nearly 30 athletes secured spots in the finals of the Youth Games sailing category. Among them, Zhou Ke and Guo Yuyi from Zhejiang claimed the top honors in the mixed 470 U21 category in both the field and long-distance races.

The competition took place in the waters off Yuliao Beach, marking the first time that such a national sailing event was held in the region.
