Prior to the first National Ecological Day, which falls on August 15, the city of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province had announced the list of towns and townships that achieved the "Beautiful Water Town" status for 2023. Nanhui street in Lucheng district and Chashan street in Ouhai district are among the 29 towns on the list, local media reported.

In line with the requirements of Zhejiang province, Wenzhou had a plan to create 12 "Beautiful Water Towns" this year. However, due to the collective efforts and hard work of various districts, a total of 29 towns passed the on-site inspections and evaluations conducted by expert panels. The achievements have made Wenzhou the first city in the province to fully meet the city-level acceptance criteria.

Since the launch of the "Beautiful Water Town" program in 2021, Wenzhou has strictly adhered to the construction standards, focusing on river and lake management, exploring local features, and vigorously developing "Beautiful Water Towns" infused with elements unique to Wenzhou. Currently, a total of 61 "Beautiful Water Towns" have been established in Wenzhou.

During the implementation of the "Beautiful Water Town" program, Wenzhou is prioritizing efforts to improve overall flood prevention levels by reinforcing embankments, rehabilitating small rivers, and strengthening reservoirs and ponds.

Measures such as dredging, bank slope regulation, ecological restoration, building waterfront parks, and ecological water adjustment have been implemented to establish a balanced aquatic ecosystem conducive to fish habitat.

Next, Wenzhou will enhance systematic management, fully utilize the resources of rivers and lakes, contribute to rural revitalization and facilitate regional development.
