The coastal city of Wenzhou in East China's Zhejiang province kicked off a month-long campaign on Aug 21, promoting local intangible cultural heritage while embracing the upcoming Asian Games.
Over 100 guests participated in the opening ceremony, witnessing the release of the new season of a video program introducing local intangible cultural heritage items.
The video program, comprising 10 bilingual episodes, aims to leverage Wenzhou's global media network and promote the distinctive local intangible cultural heritage items to the world.
The month-long campaign will also see a myriad of cultural activities taking place, such as a classic opera culture week and an academic symposium.
As there are numbers of Wenzhou residents living overseas, the event tries to forge connections between the city's intangible cultural heritage and overseas Chinese affairs, amplifying the promotion of local culture.
Being one of the co-host cities of the Hangzhou Asian Games, Wenzhou has intensified its endeavors to combine the much-anticipated international sporting event with its rich cultural resources. This includes the development of cultural products, the introduction of specialized tour routes, and the curation of performances for the Games' opening and closing ceremonies.
