Public transportation in the six Asian Games host cities – Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jinhua, Shaoxing, and Huzhou – started allowing international visitors to use Alipay QR codes to commute on Aug 25.

The upgrade will enhance the travel experience for overseas visitors, allowing them to watch the Asian Games events while immersing themselves in the charm of Chinese culture.

For first-time Alipay users from abroad, users simply need to download the app, register an account using their mobile number, and link an international bank card like Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Diners Club, or Discover.

Once inside Alipay's homepage, users must tap on "Transport" in the top right corner and obtain the e-QR code for local public transportation in their respective city. After receiving the QR code, foreign tourists can easily navigate through public transportation gates, much like domestic users, by scanning their QR codes at bus and subway gates.

Domestic subway ticket vending machines and ticket counters now accept Alipay Hong Kong, Kakao Pay, and Touch'n Go eWallet, among other Alipay-affiliated foreign e-wallets, for purchasing metro tickets.
