Wenzhou gears up for international collaboration with annual conference

The 2023 Mayors Exchange Conference on Maritime Silk Road City Influence, hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, is set to take place in Wenzhou from Nov 24 to 25. The conference aims to promote cultural exchange and cooperation among Maritime Silk Road cities under the theme of "Mutual Learning, Mutual Reference, and Win-Win Cooperation".

Organized by the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government, Xinhua News Agency, and Tsingshan Holding Group, the event encompasses a main conference, five parallel thematic sessions on different topics, and various supporting activities.

The main conference on Nov 25 will feature international dignitaries, mayors from Silk Road cities, government officials, scholars, and elites from various sectors. During the event, the comprehensive influence index of Maritime Silk Road cities will be unveiled. Additionally, a joint initiative on innovative development cooperation and cultural preservation among Silk Road cities will be announced.

Parallel sessions in the afternoon of Nov 24 include forums on cultural heritage, green energy industries, and an academic symposium on Zhou Daguan, a historical figure who played a major role in exploring the Maritime Silk Road in ancient times. 

Notable supporting activities during the conference include a cultural heritage appreciation night, classic performances, an observation tour for mayors, and visits showcasing Wenzhou's unique cultural, scientific, and technological strengths.

Wenzhou, celebrated for its ancient commercial port, aligns strategically with its role as a key Maritime Silk Road city. Leveraging its rich history and cultural heritage, the city aims to hold an international event that fosters cooperation and understanding among cities. The conference seeks to propel the shared thinking of high-quality development and global connectivity in a new era.
