Wenzhou highlighted its commitment to an open economy, reporting significant progress in import trade.

In the past two years, the city has established multiple import platforms, including one national-level import trade promotion and innovation demonstration zone, fostering a robust foundation for further growth.

This year, Wenzhou has made noteworthy achievements such as the first import transactions in sectors like polyurethane materials, Malaysian bird's nests, liquefied natural gas, and Spanish ham.

From January to October in 2023, the city's total import value reached 42.26 billion yuan ($5.96 billion), representing a 25.5 percent year-on-year increase. The demonstration zone's imports volume surged by 38.9 percent, totaling 11.08 billion yuan.

The upcoming 5th Zhejiang (Wenzhou) Imported Consumer Goods Exposition, scheduled from Dec 8 to 10, underscores the city's dedication to enhancing both the import sector and consumer experiences.

The expo will feature international brands, maintaining quality and safety, with activities like livestreaming product selections and new product launches.

Meanwhile, Ouhai district, celebrating its one-year anniversary as the selected national-level import trade promotion and innovation demonstration zone, has seen remarkable results. The district actively stimulates import business at the local port, propelling the city into an import hub and facilitating strategic partnerships with Southeast Asian economies.

Wenzhou's concerted efforts in import trade, coupled with initiatives and stimulus, demonstrate its commitment to fostering economic growth and embracing global opportunities.
