The inaugural closing ceremony of the first phase of the Mongolian Ophthalmic Optometry Training Program took place recently at Wenzhou Medical University.

Ten Mongolian students were awarded certificates, marking the initiation of the program tailored for Mongolian ophthalmologists by the affiliated Ophthalmic Optometry Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University.

The five-year initiative aims to perform free cataract surgeries on 1,000 Mongolian patients while concurrently enhancing Mongolia's eye healthcare through systematic optometry education and training. The participants successfully completed a four-week training program encompassing theoretical studies, clinical practices, and case analyses.

Throughout the course, the students not only mastered the fundamental theories and skills of optometry but also stayed abreast of the latest clinical and research developments in Chinese optometry, as well as initiatives for myopia prevention.

In addition to the graduation ceremony, the event witnessed the signing of the "Belt and Road" Mongolia Ophthalmic Optometry Training Program Cooperation Agreement.

According to the agreement, from 2023 to 2027, Wenzhou Medical University's affiliated Ophthalmic Optometry Hospital will annually train ten Mongolian ophthalmologists, sowing the seeds of enlightenment in the spirit of the Belt and Road Initiative.
