Wenzhou is set to enchant the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area with its rich opera heritage. From Dec 20 to 21, the 2023 Classic Southern Opera event will grace the stage of the Guangzhou Opera House.

The event stems from Wenzhou's hosting of the Spring Festival Opera Gala, propelling Chinese opera culture onto the global stage. To amplify this success, the city launched the "Theater Comes from Wenzhou," a serial event promoting Southern Opera culture with a goal to illuminate Wenzhou as the city of traditional Chinese opera and tell its compelling story to the world.

With over 300,000 Wenzhou natives shaping the tapestry of life in the Greater Bay Area, the cultural exchange between Wenzhou and the region is continuing to thrive. Renowned Wenzhou artists have played a key role in this exchange, connecting agencies like the Guangdong Cantonese Opera Theater and the Xiqu Centre of the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong.
The specialized performance at the Guangzhou Grand Theatre is expected to be a tapestry of traditional Chinese arts, blending operas in various regional styles, Wenzhou drum speeches, folk songs, and puppetry.
