Wenzhou Port kicked off the year strong, with its container throughput increasing 14.08 percent to 320,400 TEUs, its total cargo throughput increasing 1.16 percent to 18.53 million metric tons, and its sea-rail intermodal containers surging 74 percent to 1,914 TEUs.
Leveraging Zhejiang's integrated port reforms, Wenzhou Port has enhanced its global connectivity, improving services and boosting its role in the Belt and Road initiative.
Statistics reveal that in the first quarter, Wenzhou Port handled 7.05 million tons of coal, a 7-percent increase year-on-year, while petroleum and natural gas throughput reached 1.06 million tons, an increase of 15.2 percent, and steel throughput rose by 11.2 percent to 1.38 million tons.
In the realm of sea-rail intermodal transport, Wenzhou has made significant strides. By promoting initiatives such as ship-to-rail and multimodal transport services, the city has established container sea-rail freight trains connecting Yongkang, Nanchang, Shangrao, Lishui, and Jinyun to Wenzhou.
Sea-rail intermodal transport volume surged to 1,008 TEUs in January alone, a remarkable 453.8 percent year-on-year increase.
