Regarded as one of China's most prestigious wrestling competitions, the championships features the nation’s most skilled athletes and has among the broadest participation of any such wrestling competition in the country.

The event is hosted by the Weightlifting Wrestling Judo Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sports and the Chinese Wrestling Association, with local sports bureaus and development groups co-organizing.
