At the 6th Asian Trampoline Championships in Hong Kong, 16-year-old Yu Weijie from Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, won two golds on May 12.
The event, which drew over 120 elite athletes from 12 countries, featured three competitions: the main championship, the youth championship, and the age group competition.
Yu clinched gold in both the men's individual finals for the age group and the youth championships with scores of 55.85 and 57.63. His coach, Zhao Kunjie, lauded Yu's performance, highlighting his group-leading preliminaries and exceptional execution.
Yu's journey began in 2020 when he joined the Zhejiang provincial team. Despite not being the best initially, his dedication and clear vision for his future stood out. Post-competition, Yu always meticulously reviews his performances with Zhao, determined to learn from his mistakes.
His achievements include a national youth championship title in 2021 and silver medals at national and international youth competitions last year. Yu's rapid progress secured him a spot on the national youth trampoline team in December last year, and his team ranked fourth at the National Trampoline Championships, a qualifier for the Paris Olympics.
