The Ice Vision ballet troupe from St Petersburg, Russia will perform at the Wenzhou Grand Theater on May 22 and 23, bringing the classic ice ballets The Arabian Nights on Ice and The Nutcracker and Lord of Darkness on Ice to audiences in Wenzhou.
Ice Vision is renowned for its unique style and high-caliber performances, with dancers skilled enough to match traditional ballet on the ice. The Arabian Nights on Ice is an energetic ice drama inspired by the Arabian tales, featuring the adventures of Aladdin, Alibaba's discovery of a thieves' treasure trove, and Sinbad's seafaring discoveries. The Nutcracker and Lord of Darkness on Ice promises an exciting plot, stunning video scenes, captivating music, and a magical atmosphere.
Transforming a theater into an ice rink is a technical feat. The Russian team constructs a 15-meter x 15-meter ice stage, pours in tons of water, and uses ice machines to freeze and polish the surface, a process taking 48 hours. The ice must be harder than typical rinks to withstand the performers' jumps and lifts.
Appreciating ice ballet requires a shift in perspective from traditional ballet. The focus is on the performers' strength, speed, and control, with fluid skating that embodies the grace of classical ballet as well as athletic power. The combination of rapid spins and aerial acrobatics promises a refreshing experience for the audience.
